Power
Most people go through life and have never noticed one simple fact: every single person in our life has influenced what we do whether small or big. These changes have created a foundation in the basis of our everyday actions. Take for example somebody we all know, Ms. Tunink. Now how exactly does she have power over us? Most people would assume that just because she’s the teacher, that she has power over us. Though, there is much more to it than that. Everyday we come into this class and she shares enthusiasm, focus and openness which mentally changes us to want to cooperate and listen to her. And we listen to her because of who she is and because of the traditional loyalty and respect we have for her position.
Influence just for you to know is the ability to control others’ thoughts, feelings or behavior. Whether its fear, inspiration, creativity, anger other impacts or emotions, it is on the premise that you are the one influencing or the one being influenced. There are multiple types of influence, mainly parted into good or bad. Some examples of “good” would be socializing or appealing to values, whereas bad would be manipulating or threatening.
Influence can be as complex as forming an alliance of nations to try to influence a rogue country's leadership to change its policies or as simple as a child smiling and extending his hand in an offer of friendship. Or let’s put it this way, raise your hand if you have at least one sibling. If you have an older sibling its most likely that you feel they have some sort of power over you. It may be everyday telling you do go get stuff or to stop doing things, you feel that after they tell you that you are obligated to do so because of their power. It’s your siblings influence, the way that they make YOU feel that gives them the power over you.
The point is, is that how someone impacts or influences you changes who you are while giving them power. It is up to yourself to discern someone’s power for being good or bad and how to act upon it, because influence is power.
